It has done so in a network run by members, for members. In celebration of our first decade milestone, our membership community wants to help more organizations - including smaller and under-resourced libraries, archives, and museums - to preserve their content. To further lower the barriers to entry in our community of practice, our members have designed and launched the following: - A new option (in 2017) to pay a technology fee rather than operating a server node within our preservation network. - A Collaborative Membership Level that allows many organizations to band together and share their membership costs (see e.g., InDiPres ). - A simplified and streamlined ingest process using BagIt. For more details, including how to join the MetaArchive Cooperative, please visit our new and improved website at metaarchive.org or contact sam at educopia.org! We have built an OAIS preservation system dedicated to cinema assets preservation. It was a big challenge for scalability purpose. We deal with huge assets : for instance a digital cinema master asset is around 10-15 TB with 300k files. I attach here a description of our use case. My proposal is a feedback on our use case : ? Eclair Archive : preservation at scale in a bottom up approach ? - preservation at scale : * dealing with huge assets is a technology breaking point in a lot of existing preservation solution * ingest performance are also a big deal : our solution is currently ingesting at 8TB/day and is scalable - bottom : * we first focus solid foundation based on standard : OAIS model, AIP in bagit format, format policy registry based on Pronom UK, metadata serialized in METS files with PREMIS sections * we have a very strong asset validation policy during our pre ingest process * we built a preservation catalog with all metadata indexed - up : * once solid foundations are set, we can improve preservation catalog valorization, semantic indexation ... National Digital Stewardship Residency (NDSR) Art is able to offer a salary and professional development stipend for a full-time digital stewardship resident to four institutions for twelve-months. Applications will be accepted via email until September 29, 2017. Since participation requires a high-level of institutional commitment, those who are considering applying should begin conversations with colleagues now. Host applicants are responsible for submitting a digital stewardship project proposal. Of particular interest are innovative projects with results that can have broad impact and be shared with professional societies. Projects should address art information digital stewardship issues such as: * planning for long-term sustainable access to digital assets, including * born digital works of art and time-based media, * electronic publications, * interpretive technologies and apps, * in-house produced audio-visual materials * reformatting, migration, and/or emulation of complex digital objects, * design and planning for content management and metadata systems, * addressing institutional readiness and assessment of digital preservation planning, and * policy issues, including * intellectual property, * copyright, * access and use, and * accessibility. For detailed information about the program and application process see: * Host Application Guidelines * Host Application * Host Service Agreement * Application Timeline If you have questions or want to discuss your NDSR Art project proposal, please email ndsr at philamuseum.org. Program Background NDSR Art is a residency program that helps art and cultural institutions tackle issues of digital stewardship. It is an iteration of the NDSR program that began in 2013, with a pilot project developed by the Library of Congress in conjunction with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The NDSR program was developed to bridge the gap between existing, well developed classroom education and the need for more direct professional experience in the field. The program serves several different populations: students interested in the field of digital stewardship, partnering institutions, and the broader cultural heritage community. The mission of the NDSR program is to build a dedicated community of professionals who will advance our nation's capabilities in managing, preserving, and making accessible the digital record of human achievement. NDSR Art adapts and expands the NDSR model by addressing issues of digital preservation and stewardship in relation to the arts, with a particular focus on new media and arts information. The program will support two nationally dispersed cohorts- each consisting of four recent postgraduates placed in host institutions for twelve-month residencies. The first cohort begins late July 2017. NDSR Art is a partnership of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and ARLIS/NA, made possible with generous funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Message-ID: <3EF612F9-268B-44E6-90E7-DF939048D0ED@tacc.utexas.edu> Computational Archival Science: digital records in the age of big data. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in Boston, MA, USA, in conjunction with the 2017 IEEE International Conference on Big Data (IEEE BigData 2017). See call for papers at: http://dcicblog.umd.edu/cas/ieee_big_data_2017_cas-workshop/ ***** Submission Deadline: October 10, 2017 ***** The large-scale digitization of analog archives, the emerging diverse forms of digital records and systems, and new ways of engaging with archival material using technology, are resulting in disruptions to traditional archival theories and practices. Increasing quantities of ?big archival data? present challenges for the practitioners and researchers who work with archival material, but also offer enhanced possibilities for use and scholarly exploration through the application of computational methods and tools. This workshop will explore this conjunction of emerging methods and technologies around digital records and big data with archival theory and practice, and will examine new forms of records generation and historical, social, scientific, and cultural research engagement with archival institutions. We aim to identify and evaluate current trends, requirements, and potential in these areas, to examine the new questions that they can provoke, and to help determine possible research agendas for the evolution of computational archival science in the coming years, as well as addressing the questions and concerns scholarship is raising about the interpretation of ?big data? and the uses to which it is put. Full papers, of up to 10 pages, should be submitted via the online submission system at https://wi-lab.com/cyberchair/2017/bigdata17/scripts/ws_submit.php. We also encourage submission of short papers (up to 6 pages) reporting work in progress. The submission deadline is October 10, 2017. All papers accepted will be included in the proceedings published by the IEEE Computer Society Press. The workshop builds on a number of recent developments in Computational Archival Science (see: http://dcicblog.umd.edu/cas/), and in particular on the 1st Computational Archival Science workshop at IEEE Big Data 2016 (see: http://dcicblog.umd.edu/cas/ieee_big_data_2016_cas-workshop/), which attracted a range of professionals and researchers, both from the DC area and internationally.
