What should a digital preservation system do? How do I choose one? What am I missing out on?

At iPRES this year, we are extremely excited to be able to present a full day event that should help you answer some of these questions. We have invited five digital preservation system vendors to come and detail how their system works. All the developers have been given a list of preservation activities that they should cover in their allotted time. The developers are: Duraspace, Artefactual Systems, KEEP Solutions, Preservica and Ex Libris.

This comparison across five systems should provide you with a great opportunity to:

-        Compare systems using a set list of criteria

-        Ask questions about systems in a relaxed environment

-        Judge how far digital preservation systems have come and how far we still have to go

-        Highlight to vendors functionality that is important to your organisation.

We have attached the list of criteria we have asked the developers to discuss to give an indication of the shape of the event. If you are beginning on the search for a system, this is your chance to get a feel for what is available. If you already have a system, this is your chance to do the DP system equivalent of looking around your neighbour's house.
