The Schlesinger Library, Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University, invites you to join a distinguished group of nationally renowned archivists, librarians, and scholars for the 2018 Radcliffe Workshop on Technology and Archival Processing, A More Complete Record: The Case for Archival Partnerships, Thursday, April 12 and Friday, April 13, 2018. This workshop will focus on the importance of partnerships and the role of technology in meeting the imperative to preserve and extend access to a more complete historical record. The program aims to explore new models for broader access to archives.

The Past is Present | Keynote Conversation

? Craig Wilder, Barton L. Weller Professor of History, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
? Beverly Guy-Sheftall, Chair of Women's Research & Resource Centers, Anna Julia Cooper Professor of Women's Studies, Spelman College
Craig Wilder & Beverly Guy-Sheftall will discuss the historical and current relationships between Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) and majority institutions. They will examine the intellectual, economic, cultural, and structural roots of these relationships and how these institutions can reckon with the past in order to make meaningful change in the present and future.
Scholars Report on Research Experience | Panel Discussion

Moderator: A'lelia Bundles, journalist and author of On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker
? Garrett Felber, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Mississippi and Visiting Scholar in the Charles Warren Center for Studies in American History, Harvard University
? Valerie Boyd, Scholar, journalist, and cultural critic. Author: Wrapped in Rainbows: The Life of Zora Neale Hurston
? Anastasia Curwood, Associate Professor, Director, African American & Africana Studies, University of Kentucky
Within the libraries and archives of many HBCUs and black community repositories lie the rich historical record of black lives and organizations. Scholars seek even greater access to the records held in these repositories. In this panel, scholars who have worked with black archival collections discuss their research experience and brainstorm how the scholarly community can help facilitate preservation and access to collections of underrepresented communities.

Speaking from the perspectives of an innovative technologist and a prolific researcher, Brewster Kahle and Jill Lepore will discuss the role of technology in creating institutional partnerships to expose hidden histories.
This workshop is a featured event of the Harvard Library Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Team.
