I’m not but I’m hoping to do a similar event here at BU (and to direct interested parties to the event)
Best,

DataRescue at MIT is a hackathon focused on identifying, downloading, processing, and mirroring federal research data at risk of being taken down or obscured by the current administration. The event is being hosted by MIT ACSES<https://www.facebook.com/MITACSES/>, MIT Libraries<https://www.facebook.com/mitlib/>, and The Environmental Data & Governance Initiative -EDGI<https://www.facebook.com/EnviroDGI/>, with support from MIT Graduate Student Council - GSC<https://www.facebook.com/MITgsc/> and MIT Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering<https://www.facebook.com/MITCEE/>.
This event is part of a larger DataRescue Boston movement http://datarescue-boston.github.io/<https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdatarescue-boston.github.io%2F&h=ATNTVLbMJnQO3O6HRh8eCP_r5c5XULpiGI7_rQlP-p7jmzGdc5idaeWZt1KSoRAiG52UuZ9LcjzGmTKO8zoKWg7mdnKDlGlOKrPNBQMOP5DGNdaTfl8niBU8gMnT7InEPaU&enc=AZMUiLC1TdAt4Hr8SlZy9BECmxOm6onjEBIOkMrRLzUKooQeR0yKt6dCb6XgYTyZlto&s=1>, which includes events and collaborators at Harvard, Tufts, and Northeastern, which is in turn part of a larger national DataRescue movement organized by the Environmental Data and Governance Initiative and Penn Program in the Environmental Humanities<https://www.facebook.com/ppehlab/>.
People with all levels of technical background are welcome! There will be a wide array of tasks including:
-Browsing websites to identify data sets
-Developing scripts and tools to scrape data
-Processing and verifying data integrity
-Uploading data to mirrors
-Visualizing and documenting our efforts
We will also need volunteers to help run the event! In particular, we need people who have experience in scraping data, working with and ensuring the integrity of large data sets, and/or are comfortable leading groups.
Sign up to volunteer: https://goo.gl/forms/MobRBKNDYeA4hIuG3<https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fgoo.gl%2Fforms%2FMobRBKNDYeA4hIuG3&h=ATMdmwR_oE9aiDnb_pmJ40LbYHHaVZDFR4DHkp_MDg6gCvlkdWXMt-2c94wYXh9O2VH3rqt9YwZP2-VBhWkNg-9wKoDLdmBR5cdTw47xSvf2Hi0PL4MwjN2nheVZXpKnMak&enc=AZMhNs_HWQG__ffXzZpLVDPoz-EM3NeFEYa-OIDFNFv-p3sXlSxpL4wD6xAQQ3xJGEI&s=1>
(Volunteers should still register for a ticket)
Finally, we'll be expanding the #DataRescue<https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/datarescue> efforts to also include non-environmental data. If you, or your community relies on government-published information such as data, publications, and/or web pages, we urge you to nominate important resources that should be mirrored via this form:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Z4q8p_g4FpbeMR9yoOIH7ILcCquZiu_npxn3gnd8NKk/edit
And if you can't go, there are other DataRescue events:
"Many people have asked about joining remotely or DataRescue events outside of Boston. We are planning on publishing resources after the event on how to continue contributing to the effort remotely.
Additionally, DataRescue events are being planned across the country; See if there's one already scheduled in your area: http://www.ppehlab.org/datarescue-events (list is frequently being updated as more events are confirmed)
Finally, join our facebook grouphttps://www.facebook.com/groups/datarescueboston/ to connect with other Boston DataRescuers and learn about more ways to contribute to the efforts beyond the events."
