WHEN
Tuesday Sept. 20th
4-6pm
WHERE
Simmons College
School of Management
SOM-104
WHAT
The Library Fair will feature talks by Ben Florin, a web developer at
Boston College Libraries (a GSLIS alum and former staff member) and by
Mark Tomko, a current GSLIS student and a software engineer at the
Broad Institute. Ben will share what it's like working as a web
developer in an academic library and touch on special projects. Mark
will give the ASIS&T and Simmons community a preview of a talk he is
giving at the Networked Knowledge Organization Systems Workshop at the
2011 International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital
Libraries in Berlin. We'd like to invite audience participation
during our lightning talk session--give us your 5-minute spiel on a
topic of your choice (see below for more info).
Finally, we'll be closing the evening with a jaunt at the Squealing
Pig (http://g.co/maps/7v5nn) for food and drinks.
Sign up to give a lightning talk
We invite attendees to participate in lightning talks. Students,
alums, faculty, staff, and interested observers all welcome.
Lightning talks are:
-An opportunity for you to share an LIS or technology-related project
you?re working on or something else that interests you
-About 5 minutes long
-Informal. No script or slides necessary ? chalk talks are encouraged
(but feel free to use notes if needed)
Lightning talks are a great way to find out about new technologies or
trends in the field, and to find out who might share your interests.
You can sign up at the Tech Lab, online, or at the event.
