Description: "OpenURL Implementation: Link Resolution That Users Will Love." This follow-up to to introductory webinar on "Demystifying Standards" will take a look at implementing the NISO standard for link resolvers, OpenURL (ANSI/NISO Z39.88), from an end user perspective.

You do not need to have attended the previous webinar to participate, however the slides and Q&A from that webinar are available

online(http://www.niso.org/news/events/2008/webinars/alcts08/)

for those who wish to review them.**

OpenURL link resolving addresses a core issue: how we can help our users find and get the content that they want and have access to. But without successfully implementing OpenURLs, we are at risk of having content that can't be found our used, and patrons who do not know about the information they have access to. In this webinar, learn about some of the real ways that you can make certain that your link resolvers work effectively, about the practical steps that you can take to implement OpenURLs, and learn about some of the projects underway focused on improving OpenURLs so that your users can benefit.

*Speakers include:*

** Joanna White, Product Manager, WorldCat Registry, OCLC, and member of the OCLC Maintenance Advisory Group for the OpenURL standard (ANSI/NISO

Z39.88 - 2004 / http://www.niso.org/standards/z39-88-2004/ <http://www.niso.org/standards/z39-88-2004/> )

Joanna will provide a practical view of OpenURL implementation, including the process of registering OpenURLs with OCLC's WorldCat Registry and OpenURL Gateway, as well as discuss some of the ways that the OpenURL framework can be applied to best take advantage of this tool.

** Peter McCracken, co-founder and Director of Research, Serials Solutions, and Co-Chair of the NISO/UKSG KBART Working Group

Peter will provide an update of the work of the NISO/UKSG KBART (Knowledge Bases and Related

Tools) Working Group, sharing with the audience how the work of this group will be applied to improve the transfer of information found in knowledge bases, as well as speak to how their work will affect publishes, content providers, and libraries, and, more importantly, how the best practice will provide benefits to your end users.

*Audience*: This webinar is for librarians, publishers, and content providers who are interested in how to best take advantage of OpenURL to provide users with simple, accurate access to the content they have rights to. It is expected that attendees will have an understanding of what OpenURLs are and what they do, but would like to learn more about best practices to improve the implementation and use of link resolvers so that patrons can find the information that they want.
