Join us for another FREE evening of learning, networking and noshing 
with your colleagues at the New England and Simmons Student chapters of 
the American Society for Information Science and Technology.

- Have you been curious about Second Life (http://secondlife.com/) but 
cautious about exploring it?
- Have you wondered how your library and information services might be 
of value in this rapidly growing virtual world?
- Have you taken a look at the website and thought, "Well, the flying 
part looks very cool, but there goes my whole weekend!"?

If so, you will want to come to this special FREE event and get a guided 
introduction to:

- Learn how to get started quickly in Second Life
- Hear from educators who have been developing user instruction and 
library and information science education activities in Second Life
- Team up with "residents" of Second Life and meet up with other "teams" 
at the Second Life Library and travel together to other related sites

We will be conducting two sessions according to the following schedule:

5:45pm
- Candy Schwartz, Professor and Coordinator of Doctoral Studies at 
Simmons College
- Megan Fox, Web and Electronic Resources Librarian at Simmons College

Candy and Megan will give a brief introduction to Second Life and 
discuss their grant-funded project to develop library user instruction 
and library and information science education activities in Second Life

6:05pm
Candy, Megan and other experienced "residents" of Second Life will each 
team up with 2-3 observers around computers and show their team briefly 
how to log in, setup and move around. All of the "residents" and their 
teams of observers will proceed through the Second Life environment to 
meet up at the Second Life Library for a demonstration in the classroom
there. En route, "residents" will further educate their observing team 
members about facets of Second Life.

6:45pm
Session concludes and participants are invited to adjourn for 
refreshments and networking.

The next session will begin at 7:15pm and repeat the format. Attendees 
at the second session are encouraged to arrive early for refreshments 
and networking at 6:30pm.
