How do we account for the types of services information professionals
provide?
Is information work too amorphous to target?
There are many service processes in information work, from purchasing
content to answering requests. Putting in place an automated system for
tracking various service processes can assist tremendously with our work
from evaluating what we’re doing ant he types of content we’re
purchasing, to being able to adequately report our activities to
management when making funding requests.
But the key question is: How do you do it?
Come to this program where we’ll hear how an academic and a corporate
library used different software and systems to track their research work
and consequently were able to easily and accurately report on the
value-add they contribute to the organizations for which they work.
Speakers:
Tomalee Doan, Associate Professor and Head Librarian, Management &
Economics Library, Purdue University
Tomalee will talk about how she worked with Numara Help Desk software to
develop tracking procedures for various library operations, including
research workflow.
Dr. Toby Perlstein, Director, Global Information Serivces, Bain &
Company, Inc.
Toby will talk about how they use the eRef service from SoftLink to
track their global research workflow operations.
After contributions from our presenters, we’d like to open this program
up as a general discussion on tracking and evaluating research work and
issues surrounding collecting and using data to better understand and
act on our customers’ information support needs.
Agenda:
5:30pm – 7:00pm Excellent refreshments and time to network
with colleagues
7:00pm – 9:00pm Presentations by Tomalee & Toby, followed by
questions & discussion
9:00pm – ? We’ll continue the discussion at the
