The New England Chapter of the American Society of Indexers
invites all who are interested in learning more about indexing
to its annual fall conference:

Program:

9:15 am: Registration, continental breakfast, and networking

10:00 am: Workshop: "Indexing Tips: From The Most Common Mistakes To
Advanced Techniques"
Exercises and examples designed to sharpen your skills. Bring your questions
for a lively discussion. Presented by Susan Holbert.
Susan Holbert has been an indexing consultant and trainer for 25 years. She
has created an indexing seminar, Basic Indexing Skills, and gives in-house
indexing seminars. She helped design the indexing software program, wINDEX,
and is a former president of NEASI.

11:30 am: Roundtables:
Moderated discussions on different indexing subject areas from among
medical, technical/computers, textbooks, scholarly books, business &
finance, and cookbooks, involving two or three rotations of discussion
groups.

12:15 pm: Lunch: Includes choice of soup or salad; choice of entree: chicken
or garden primavera; two sides; dessert (brownie/congo bar), water, sodas.

12:45 pm: Brief Presentations:
1) Disability insurance, presented by Matthew Kustanovitz of Mutual of
Omaha.
2) News from the American Society of Indexers, presented by ASI President
Seth Maislin

1:30 pm: Panel Presentation: Indexing Specific Materials
1) Encyclopedias, presented by Pauline Sholtys
2) Children's books, presented by Heather Hedden
3)A local library's local history collection, presented by Marilyn Rowland

3:00 pm: Index Peer Review Session:
Simultaneous small groups to review 3-5 indexes each. Give and receive
feedback on indexes you have written and submitted by September 27 to May
Hasso. mhasso at charter.net Those not submitting indexes are welcome to
participate and learn, simply by listening to the comments.

4:30 pm: Business meeting: All chapter members welcome.

Cost: $55 for ASI members, and $65 for nonmembers.
