SALARY RANGE: $70,374 to $91,489, commensurate with experience.
PURPOSE:
The PALS Executive Director is the chief administrative officer for the
PALS Office. The mission of PALS is to provide leadership, expertise,
and service in library consortia, library automation, and resource
sharing. The Executive Director will provide leadership to an
organization charged with providing automated library services and other
services for the Consortium of MnPALS Libraries which includes MnSCU
colleges and universities, private colleges, state agencies, special
libraries, and school libraries. The PALS Executive Director reports to
the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities System (MnSCU) Director of
Libraries.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The PALS Executive Director is responsible for successfully planning,
organizing, implementing, and directing all aspects of the PALS office.
Specific responsibilities include planning and organizational
development; supervision of 19 staff; management of the PALS office
operations with an annual budget of approximately $2 million. The
Executive Director is also expected to develop and maintain effective
working relationships with the Consortium of MnPALS Libraries and MnSCU
institutions, vendors and other external organizations and agencies.
Consideration will be given to candidates who bring energy, vision,
political acumen, strategic thinking and a track record of achieving
success in library management. The Executive Director is responsible for
the fiscal affairs of the PALS office and will work with the MnSCU
System Director of Libraries to project and prepare annual and long-term
budgets. This position is expected to build on the organization's
successful leadership role in library technology and services, both at a
state and national level.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Earned Master's Degree in library science or computer and information
science.
* Minimum of five years management experience in library services and/or
computer and information services.
* Experience with library computing networks or multi-site information
systems.
* Supervisory experience.
* Experience with budget management including multiple funding sources.
* Applied knowledge of trends and development in library automation.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and work effectively with
people from diverse backgrounds.
* Experience with successful project planning, implementation and
managing multiple priorities.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
* Other academic degree(s) or certifications.
* Successful record of working with group processes, including consensus
building and conflict resolution.
* Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, plan and implement complex
automation and network services.
