Center for Transportation Studies Transportation Library Internship
The University of Minnesota Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) is
initiating an internship program designed to provide graduate students in
library and information science experience and exposure to the resources
and information management challenges within the multi-disciplinary field
of transportation. The internship is a great opportunity to apply current
information management practices and technologies in an academic and
practical environment.
The internship will be available in September 2006, and will be expected to
last 9 months.
Job Description - Projects:
The intern will assist with the following projects:
* Assign categories and metadata to photos and other digital objects
* Develop specific topic bibliographies for multiple Web sites
* Add metadata to Web content and to research database
* Assist with CTS' participation in the U of M Digital Conservancy
program.
* Investigate new technologies for information management and access
* Coordinate the scanning and uploading of research reports to database
* Update library request database
* Assist with reference questions
* Other projects as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
* Library/Information Science master's degree student
* Strong attention to detail
* Ability to handle multiple tasks and to work independently
* Ability to categorize and catalog materials
* Experience with HTML, CSS and other Web technologies such as blogs
and wikis.
* Cataloging and reference coursework or experience desired
Available Start Date: September 2006
Salary Range: $11.00 - $13.00 per hour
Work Schedule: 10-20 hours/week (flexible to class schedule)
