The Minnesota Chapter of SLA will host the April 6th SLA Virtual Seminar, 
"Negotiating - part 1:  The art of negotiating anything".

Date:  Wednesday, April 6, 2005

Time:  1:00 - 2:30pm CDT  (plan to arrive a few minutes early, because the 
seminar starts promptly at 1pm)

Directions:   The seminar will be held in the one-story building on the 
Northwest corner of 94th Street & 35W

Cost:  $10 for SLA/ASIST members:  $15 for non-members  (Please make your 
check payable to "Minnesota Chapter SLA" and bring it with you to the seminar.

Part I
The Art of Negotiating Anything

Description
Dread your next vendor contract renewal? Wishing you could get the nerve to 
ask for a raise? No problem interviewing but nervous when you get to the 
salary discussion? Negotiation is an art and there are some basics you can 
review to prepare you for your next negotiation opportunity and put you on 
even footing. In this dynamic and interactive workshop, attorney and 
consultant to the information services industry Jennifer R. Pitarresi 
outlines the basic tenets in the art of negotiating and gives you advanced 
pointers to increase your bargaining power in virtually any situation. 
Negotiation Exercise will be assigned.

Course Level - Intermediate - Concepts beyond the scope of fundamentals for 
practitioners at all experience levels

Virtual Learning Series Speaker:  Jennifer R. Pitarresi is a practicing 
attorney and a consultant, focusing primarily on the information services 
industry.

As a Corporate Counsel Consultant based in Washington, DC, she was 
responsible for spearheading team service and growing the DC/MD/VA legal 
market, consulting with general counsels, staff attorneys, paralegals, and 
librarians on appropriate services to meet their needs, as well as 
providing support to LexisNexis sales teams on proposals and client 
support, developing and conducting seminars, competitive presentations, and 
continuing legal education classes.

In late 2003, Ms. Pitarresi launched JP Consulting, concentrating on 
offering seminars and workshops on topics such as negotiation skills, 
effective presentations and communication, employment law basics, and Legal 
101s. She has presented to individual employers, as well as associations 
such as the Special Libraries Association.
