The ALA ACRL meeting is in Minneapolis this week. One of the interesting
things that ACRL is doing is testing 'virtual' conference attendance,
including live webcasts and blogging. As a precursor to this a live (and
now archived) webcast was done for anyone (registrants or not), that was an
interview with Cliff Lynch of CNI and Michael Keller of Stanford
University, ffi: http://www.learningtimes.net/acrlarchive.html
And here is a specific announcement about a specific ACRL program this week:

Quality Assurance in the Age of Author Self-Archiving. In the age of author
self-archiving, there are forces, factors, and influences other than
pending classical peer review that can assure the quality of scholarship
before formal publication. Among these alternative approaches are
institutional review, 'critical peer response', 'action learning', and
Total Quality Scholarship. Gain an understanding of the strengths and
weaknesses of conventional peer review process and develop an awareness of
current and emerging alternative models to traditional peer review.
