Here's a MLIS scholarship opportunity. The qualifications are specific
and the deadline is soon - but just in case anyone knows the right
person I thought I'd pass this on.

Keep warm! Ann

FYI
Please note February 1st deadline date.

Developing the next generation of Native Librarians!
"Honoring Generations"
is seeking applications from American Indian students
interested in careers
in tribal librarianship. Scholarships are available for six
students to
enroll in a 40 graduate credit hour in-residence program at
the University
of Texas in Austin. The program will focus on four
priorities: recruitment;
professional education; mentoring; and service-learning.
Students will
complete, within three calendar years, the 40 semester hours
required for a
Master of Science in Information Studies from the School of
Information at
the University of Texas at Austin. The program will include
courses in
tribal school librarianship, tribal community librarianship
and tribal
academic librarianship. "Honoring Generations" students
will receive
financial packages worth approximately $13,000/year. The
deadline for
financial aid applications is February 1, 2004. Find more
information on
the application process, visit www.ischool.utexas.edu. Or
call Dr. Loriene
Roy at (512) 471-3959 or email her at
loriene at ischool.utexas.edu.

The Arizona State University website maintains an extensive
listing of
Native Scholarship opportunities throughout the country.
Not all listings
are current, and many only provide contact information for
interested
parties instead of a detailed examination of the individual
scholarships,
but the listing has been compiled by ASU with the help of
several American
Indian tribes and is thoroughly comprehensive. For more
information, visit
the website at:
http://www.asu.edu/studentlife/msc/NAAP/scholarship.html.
