2004 Museum Computer Network Conference
Call for Proposals
Great Technology for Collections, Confluence, and Community
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Meeting Dates: November 10 13, 2004
Proposals Due: EXTENDED To February 27, 2004
Dear Colleagues:
The theme for the 2004 Conference is Great Technology for Collections,
Confluence
and Community. Join us in Minnesota where countless lakes, creeks and streams
flow together to give rise to the mighty Mississippi, the first super network
of our Nation. Minneapolis, the first great metropolis at the headwaters of
this life-giving waterway, will be the perfect site for the 2004 MCN conference
where we will focus on how museums, libraries, and archives put great
technology
into action to build communities around our collective cultural heritage. The
famed Skyways of Minneapolis, a network of sheltered walkways connecting
buildings
downtown, will serve to remind us how important it for us to focus on building
communities and collaborating with one another. And of course, the Mall of
America,
will symbolize how the MCN conference has always been the "One-Stop Shopping"
place for learning about all of the technology museums have implemented. Who
knows, it might even inspire us to build a golf course inside our museum!!
Because we will be partnering with the Minnesota Historical Society we will
benefit from their proven expertise in providing access to collections, and
we will be exploring the on-going confluence of archives, libraries and
museums.
The Program Committee is seeking presentations based on current and planned
activities or research that focus on one of the following broad areas of
interest:
Collaboration & Confluence
Management Issues
Collection Information Management
Membership & Fund Raising
Cyber Communities
Multimedia & Streaming Technologies
Digital Rights Management
Preservation & Digital Longevity
Exhibition Technologies
Point of Sale & eCommerce
Imaging Technologies Research & Evaluation
Intellectual Property
Standards & Interoperability
Proposals will be accepted in one of the following three formats: panels,
workshops
or roundtables. Each session must have a chairperson responsible for finding
other speakers and coordinating logistics. All chairs must be affiliated with
an institutional member or be an MCN individual member. Topics for the sessions
should fall into at least one of the categories listed on page 1 of the
proposal
form. All proposals for sessions and/or workshops must be submitted on Call
for Proposals form, now available online at www.mcn.edu. To get more specific
information, visit the MCN web site, www.mcn.edu or contact Susan Rawlyk at
the MCN office by email rawlyks at igs.net or phone (403) 288-9394.
2004 is coming. Lets meet in Minneapolis to share ideas and experiences. Talk
