Understanding and Welcoming Generations X & Y Into Our Work-Teams
Presenter: Jim Laumeyer, MBA, SPHR (MN Department of Transportation)
Panel Responders: Priscilla Angenor (University of Minnesota, Twin Cities),
Karen Fischer (Carleton College), Dan Gjelten (University of St. Thomas).
Jim Laumeyer will present how younger workers are very different from
"seasoned" staff, and how they must be welcomed and retained in our
workplaces. This talk will identify the critical issues, including
background information, that must be addressed by supervisors and
co-workers. A panel of librarians will respond with respect to generational
differences in the library environment.

2:15 - 3:30 PM (UMD Library) Breakout II:
Games Academics Play: Librarian / Teaching-Faculty Relationships
Lars Christiansen, Assistant Professor of Sociology (Augsburg College),
Alex Yard, Professor and Chair of History (Winona State University)
How do librarians and teaching faculty work together to "win"? From the
faculty point of view, a sociologist and a historian present their research
on faculty/librarian relationships as well as their candid observations
about fostering mutual communication and understanding with librarians in
the academic environment.

Going from "Good to Great" in Turbulent Times: Changing Library
Organizational Structures
Christine Clements (Winona State University), Terri Fishel (Macalester College)
So can we go from "good to great" in these ever-changing times? Yes, but it
will require strategic thinking, leadership, passion and disciplined
people, thought and action. This session will stimulate thinking about
strategies that can be used to enhance organizational effectiveness and to
position our libraries to be even greater in the future. Lessons learned
from Winona State University and Macalester College will be shared along
with audience examples.

3:30 - 4:00 PM: Tour of the UMD Library (Optional)

The cost is $35.00 for ARLD members and $50.00 for non-members. The price
