MEDICAL SCHOOL LIBRARIAN
Job Summary:
Develops instructional materials and curriculum and provides instruction to
students, faculty, and library staff on electronic scholarly resources,
evidence-based medicine, and information literacy for Mayo Medical School
(MMS) programs and in support of other Mayo Clinic Libraries instruction
and in-service training programs. Coordinates the student computer lab in
the Learning Resource Center (LRC) in collaboration with Library Systems
personnel. Responsible for MMS faculty and administrative liaison and
integration of teaching, learning, and literature research needs of MMS
into the services and programs of the LRC. Selects traditional and digital
learning resources for the LRC. Proposes and monitors work unit budget,
provides day-to-day supervision and evaluation of LRC staff, and assists
with recruitment of new staff under the general direction of the Public
Services Librarian. Provides reference services to faculty and students and
circulation desk coverage as needed. Participates in overall library
decision making as a member of the Library Technology Committee and the
Library Education & Training Committee and through other task forces or
committees. Position is based at the LRC, Mitchell Student Center.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education and/or Experience Required: Master's degree from an ALA
accredited library school. Demonstrated ability to provide individual and
group instruction, course development and evaluation, and development of
instructional materials and handouts. Database searching experience
required. Superior skills in oral and written communication and a firm
commitment to service. Essential personal characteristics include strong
interpersonal skills, flexibility, initiative, creativity and the ability
to work cooperatively in an evolving technological environment. Additional
Experience and/or Qualifications: Work experience in an Academic Health
Sciences Library. Supervisory experience. Work experience in an education
technology environment. Academic background in the health or life sciences.
Experience with web design, HTML and XML applications, web toolkits and
templates. Knowledge of emerging trends in the use of the web for the
delivery of curricular information.
