The New Economy has changed what is expected of us and what our
employers value. No matter what our position, there is an expectation
that we be entrepreneurs, that we seek creative avenues to achieve
uncommon results, delight our clients and create a competitive
advantage in the marketplace.
To help facilitate discussion of these issues, the MN Chapter of the
Special Library Association will host a workshop Wednesday, April
16th
from 1-4:00 PM on how information professionals can create value for
themselves and their employers.

Speaker Bios:
Patricia Berg is the General Manager of Personnel Decisions
International, Career Management Services. Her work with clients
focuses on helping them to fully explore and develop their strengths
and achieving their personal and professional goals.
She has been in the consulting and career transition business for 20
years, beginning her career at PDI in 1984. After eight years, she
joined Career Dynamics as Director of Outplacement and in 1992 was
promoted to Vice President and Managing Director where she was
responsible for the Individual Effectiveness business.
In 1997, Right Management Consultants acquired Career Dynamics
and Berg joined the management team of the Minneapolis office. As
VP
and Managing Director of Career Transition and Field Consulting, she
played a significant role in the integration of the two Minneapolis
offices. Pat later left Right Management Consultants to launch her
own consulting practice, Professional Edge, Inc., focusing on coaching
senior executives in business practices and personal development.
She
has also worked with non-profit organizations in developing actionable
strategic plans that addressed critical business issues.
Prior to her career in consulting, Berg was a human resource director
and teacher.
Peter Sidney was named assistant vice president of the Knowledge
Management Center of Expertise, Public Affairs at Cargill in October
2000. His responsibilities include knowledge collection and sharing
activities of information management, corporate archives, web
management and development, and competitor/customer intelligence.
Sidney joined Cargill as a librarian in 1989 and has served as manager
of the Information Center since 1996. Prior to joining Cargill, he
worked as a manager at the Pillsbury Company's Business Information
Center, and as a reference librarian at the White House and Executive
Office of the President Library.
Sidney has served as Deputy Chair of program planning for the 1999
Annual Conference of the Special Libraries Association. He also was
President of the MN. Chapter for 1993-94, Director of the Business and
Finance Division for 1987-89, and Secretary of the Food, Agriculture
and Nutrition Division for 1999-2001. Additionally, Sidney is active
in the Society of Competitive Intelligence, Twin Cities Knowledge
Management Forum, United States Agricultural Information Network,
and
Conference Board Information Services Advisory Council.
Sidney has been honored with the 1996 SLA Public Relations Award,
Cargill Financial Services Valued Internal Partner Award, and Special
Achievement Award from the Executive Office of the President.
