TELECONFERENCE

Reference Services: Virtual, Digital, and In-Library - A New Model for
Effective Delivery, Part II
Friday, April 11, 2003, 11:00 -1:00 Central Time

Description: This teleconference is part of a series of library
teleconferences sponsored by the College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

Richard Dougherty assembles a new panel of experts for the second annual
national teleconference on reference services. Building on last year's very
successful and informative Virtual Reference Services teleconference
series, he will explore the continuing dramatic changes coming to library
reference services. Specifically, he will engage the following key issues:
· Balancing in-library and virtual reference services
· Training staff for future changes
· Assessing reference services in all its formats
· Estimating real costs for service delivery
· Juggling copyright and intellectual property rights problems
· Reversing downward usage trends
· Deciding what reference services are right for your library
· Exploring potential of reference service modalities
Richard Dougherty's guests for the program will include:
Carrie Russell, Copyright Specialist for the American Library Association
Susan Godlewski, Coordinator of Reference Services for the Boston Public
Library
Jim Rettig, University Librarian from the University of Richmond.

These and others will lend their expertise and experience in two lively and
informative programs that will help working librarians navigate these
sometimes stormy waters.
