*Soaring to Excellence is a series of teleconferences which provide 
information and training to library support staff nationwide.

Daneen Richardson, Reference Librarian at the Graham Hospital School of 
Nursing in Canton, Illinois

This workshop will offer a practical, humanistic approach to providing 
access for special populations. Effective use of technology has become a 
critical component of information retrieval. Does this leave the blind, the 
deaf, the elderly and any other group with special challenges on the far 
side of a new digital divide?

This session will provide specific information on how to bridge that divide 
for individuals challenged in ways that we CAN accommodate if only we have 
the requisite insight, persistence, compassion, and knowledge. Building 
Another Bridge will offer very specific suggestions to insure that all 
individuals have equal access to information, regardless of the medium 
through which that information is presented.

Although there is no fee for this event, registration is required as 
seating capacity is limited.  Please make sure that the name of the 
teleconference you plan to attend is included with your registration 
information and send the completed form to Elly Gustafson-Held 
(mailto:EllyGH at umn.edu). If you have a reservation and then are unable to 
attend, please notify Elly so we can open your reserved spot to someone else.

Deadline for registering is Wednesday, November 13, 2002.
