12:45 - 01:00 -- Questions and Answers
About the Presentation:
Facet Technology Corp. (www.facet-tech.com) is a software and services
provider in the computer vision industry. They are leaders in the
identification of hard to inspect objects. Facet is 9% owned by 3M
Company, which has applied Facet's revolutionary object identification
capabilities to the transportation market for the classification of roadway
signs, pavement markings, telephone and utility poles, guardrails, and
pavement distresses. Facet will introduce the patent-
pending active sensor system this summer for the efficient measurement of
sign and pavement marking retroreflectivity.
This discussion will focus on fuzzy logic color filters, neural network
processing and multi-modal inspection algorithms. We will discuss how
these approaches break down difficult inspection tasks as diverse as
natural food inspection and roadside asset assessment, thus making them
similar problems for the object search and recognition engine.
Facet Technology Corp. will be applying their object identification
capabilities to the natural food inspection market to fill a need not
served by traditional vision inspection companies. Bacon grading, whole
chicken grading, fat content determination and precision parts cutting for
meat and poultry producers are just some of the applications for their
software.
Facet is a privately held company based in Eden Prairie, MN. The
corporation was founded in 1998 and has more than doubled yearly revenues
for the past three years.
About the Speaker:
Mr. James Retterath is the co-founder and president of Facet Technology
Corp. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MBA in marketing, both
from the University of Minnesota. He has three issued patents to his
credit, with four patents pending. U.S. patents #6,266,442 and #6,363,161
have issued for the computer vision techniques found in SignFinder(TM) -
the workhorse of Facet's set of software tools. Mr. Retterath has 20 years
experience in the high-technology field in the design and management of
complex systems, and has over five years of
experience in technical, product, and strategic marketing.
