*** Apologies for cross postings ***
The deadline for student applications to participate in the IIiX Doctoral Forum is June 1st. Note that thanks to the generous sponsorship of CEPIS-EIRSG, the European Information Retrieval Specialist Group, IIiX offers a number of travel grants to European students. Priority will be given to students who are participating in the doctoral forum and/or are presenting papers. For more information see http://www.db.dk/iiix/docforum.htm

Subject: Invitation to Doctoral Forum at the IIiX symposium October 17, 2006 in Copenhagen
[Apologies for cross postings]
The Doctoral Forum at the first Information Interaction in Context symposium (IIiX) is an invitation to doctoral students to present their research projects, and in return receive constructive feedback. The primary objective of the Doctoral Forum is to provide doctoral students with a forum to present and discuss their research projects with senior researchers and fellow students and to develop their relationships with other scientists.
We invite all doctoral students investigating aspects in, e.g., information retrieval, information seeking or human-computer interaction related areas to apply for the forum. We especially welcome projects where contextual features are being considered as part of the research design.
The Doctoral Forum is a one-day event that takes place prior (October 17) to the IIiX symposium (www.db.dk/iiix). Students are to give a 15-20 minute presentation of their research project. Each presentation is followed by 15 to 20 minutes of discussion with senior researchers, which are experts in one or more of the general IIiX symposium themes (www.db.dk/iiix/themes.htm):
* Case studies, field experiments, simulations of context-sensitive Information Seeking & Retrieval;
* Contextual Information Interaction theory;
* Evaluation and research methodologies for IIiX;
* Platforms and frameworks for doing research on IIiX.
Due to the time consuming form of the Doctoral Forum, the number of participants is restricted.

Applications:
To apply to the workshop, please submit an application of 1500 words containing:
* Description of doctoral research project that includes research questions; and
* a motivation for student participation at the Doctoral Forum.
The first page of the application must contain the name, affiliation and full address of the doctoral student including phone and fax numbers and email address. Proof of student status will be demanded from successful applicants.
The application should be submitted electronically through the conference submission software no later than June 1, 2006 in Word, RTF or PDF format.
We recommend that student participation and presentation of the research project at the Doctoral Forum are credited 2 ECTS by their home department.
We also recommend that doctoral students register for the main IIiX symposium, and submit full papers or research in progress papers related to their projects.
