[Chapters-l] Chapter Finances

Hi Everyone,

I am not really one to talk about being an employee of the State of
California, but here it goes.

HQ sent me a summary of the year-end chapter reports, and chapters are
losing money overall. Last year the total chapter loss was about $4100.
with some chapters with no losses and some with profit. Some
expenditures were absorbed by chapter rebates and fundraising, but many
chapters have been chipping away at chapter assets to cover these
expenditures. If this practice was unique to last year, I would not be
concerned. Instead, it has become a trend the last few years. In some
cases, some chapters could even deplete their savings in the next 2-5
years. I realize that a number of factors feed into this problem, such
as smaller rebates due to a decrease in society membership and almost
non-existent income from interest on savings. I even asked at the last
ASIST Board Meeting to consider increasing the per person $ amount that
chapters get :-)

So I guess what I am asking is for chapters to try and break even or
make a bit of profit on meetings. I also ask that chapters consider
activities where cost may no longer out way benefit. Last, I ask you
all to think about overall strategy. For example, are you choosing to
loss now to gain membership, and if so is this strategy working for you?

Thanks for your consideration,

Amy
