The Indiana, Michigan, and Chicago Chapters of the American Society for
Information Science & Technology (I-ASIS&T) and the University Libraries
of Notre Dame invite you to the following program:

"TO GOOGLE OR NOT TO GOOGLE?"

Join us for a day-long regional ASIS&T program, sponsored by the
Indiana, Michigan, and Chicago chapters and hosted by the University
Libraries of Notre Dame! 


*** Program Abstract ***
John P. Wilkin of the University of Michigan will explain the UM-Google
digitization deal: what it is, how they got there, and what it will mean
for the University of Michigan. Edward J. Valauskas of Dominican
University will tell us about his research on search engines and how
they use - or don't use - metadata. And Pascal V. Calarco, Aaron Bales,
and Tom Lehman from the University of Notre Dame will outline their
recent usability testing and redesign to improve the usability and
usefulness of the library catalog, targeted to undergraduate populations
who are more comfortable using Google for their information needs.

*** Lunch *** 
Lunch will be arranged as "Dutch Treat Dine-Arounds." We will break up
into small groups and walk to nearby restaurants. A Notre Dame host will
accompany each group. Menus will be available at the registration table
in the morning; sign up for your favorite restaurant or group there!

*** REGISTRATION: (deadline:  Monday, June 13, 2005) *** 
Register online or download a registration form to mail in at:

*** PARKING *** 
Parking is a short walk away. See http://www.nd.edu/maps/. There is a
large visitor lot at the south of campus, and additional parking for
those who stay at the on-campus hotel, the Morris Inn
(http://www.morrisinn.com/).


*** DIRECTIONS *** 
The University is located just south of the Indiana Toll Road
(Interstate 80/90) and just east of Indiana 933. From the Toll Road, use
exit 77 (South Bend/Notre Dame) and turn right (south) onto Indiana 933
(Michigan Street). Turn left (east) onto Angela Boulevard (the fourth
light), drive about one mile and turn left (north) onto Notre Dame
Avenue (the first light).
