Hello, all!

I trust you are having a good start to the new year. We very much
appreciate your service to ASIST as chapter officers this year. I hope the
following items are helpful to you:

1. Chapter Assembly Minutes attached

I am attaching the minutes of the Chapter Assembly meeting at the 2003 ASIST
Annual Meeting. We would normally approve these minutes at the 2004 ASIST
Annual Meeting, but thought you might want to read now about interesting
ideas various chapters have tried.

My thanks to Beata Panagopoulos, the Deputy Chapter Director, for taking the
minutes.

2. Chapter Advisors

I am very happy to announce that several past chapter officers have agreed
to serve as ASIST Chapter Advisors this year. Each advisor will serve as a
liaison between their assigned chapters and ASIST, making contact with
chapter chairs and/or reps. on an as-needed basis to provide encouragement,
support, and information; to identify issues or problems that should be
shared with the Assembly Director; provide advice as requested; gather
information about chapter officers and activities; help chapters keep up
with deadlines for filing award nominations and reports with ASIST HQ; and
similar activities.

You will soon be hearing from your Chapter Advisor to gather preliminary
information about chapter activity and concerns. I will share this info
with the ASIST Board of Directors, and the Chapter Advisors and I will look
for common themes and what might be done.

3. ASIST Chapter Development Fund and ASIST Project Fund

The ASIST Chapter Development Fund and the ASIST Project Fund still have
some money available for chapters who wish to submit grant proposals for
programs to strengthen their chapters beyond what local resources can
provide. The ASIST Chapter Advisory Committee has decided to earmark this
year's funds for chapters which define projects to jumpstart their
membership or activities.

The award guidelines are described in the ASIST Chapter Officers Handbook,
Appendix N. (see http://www.asis.org/AboutASIS/chofficermanual.pdf)
The Chapter Development Fund is a grant program, and the Project Fund is a
loan program.

To make it easier to apply for funds, I am attaching a sample proposal form.
You can choose to use this form or create your own application format, but I
strongly suggest you include the types of information listed in the sample
proposal form.

4. ASIST President Offers To Visit Chapters

Samantha Hastings, the ASIST President, has offered to talk to any chapter
within the United States which invites her. Sam's travel dates are filling
up quickly, but I'm sure she'd be happy to receive an invitation from your
chapter to speak at a program. You can contact her at
     hastings at lis.admin.unt.edu

Best wishes to you and your chapter!
