Please forgive cross-postings...

North Carolina Central University's School of Library and Information Sciences will host the Samuel Lazerow Memorial Lecture on Thursday, February 12, at 5:30 pm in Room 2221 of the Mary Townes Science Building on the NCCU campus. Dr. Andrew Campbell, Lecturer in Psychology in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney, will give the talk. The lecture is titled "The Impact of Online Games and Virtual Worlds on Human Information Behavior."

Abstract: Everyone who uses a computer struggles with how to manage the massive increases in technology, and how to ensure the information produced by the technology is properly resourced, utilized and managed. Some people, such as those in Generation Y, are active members of virtual worlds such as Second Life or frequent players of online games such as World of Warcraft. How do these individuals integrate virtual worlds and online games with the “real” world, especially in relation to social relationships, education, health, and leisure? What is the impact of these integrations on information seeking and information retrieval? Dr. Campbell will provide an exposé of virtual worlds and online games from a perspective that meshes social psychology and information science.

A flyer is available at http://www.nccuslis.org/news/ACampbellLazerowFlyer.pdf.

A reception will immediately follow the lecture. Please email nccuslis at gmail.com to RSVP or for more information.

Thank you,
