From MNeedleman at flvc.org Wed Nov 4 12:54:20 2015 From: MNeedleman at flvc.org (Mark Needleman) Date: Wed, 4 Nov 2015 17:54:20 +0000 Subject: [Asis-standards] ISO vote Message-ID: Folks having received only 1 comment from Timothy Dickey (who basically agreed with my opinion and also had a useful suggestion I just vote NO on ISO New work item proposal: Emergency preparedness and response for cultural heritage with the following comments: ) before developing a new document for cultural heritage material an investigation should be undertaken to determine if the document for library and archival material could also apply to cultural heritage material 2) if a document for cultural heritage material is going to be developed and its going to be anything like the one (ISO 11799) for library and archival material it hardly merits being an ISO standard. ISO 11799 is merely a collection of useful (sometimes common sense) suggestions and advice that hardly merits being an ISO standard since it doesnt really standardize or mandate anything. Its a useful document that provides some potentially helpful advice and guidance and might make sense being published as a technical report or advisory document but hardly deserves the status of an ISO standard - If a similar document is defined for cultural heritage material and contains the same type of material that is in ISO 11799 it would fall into the same category If anyone has a problem or disagreement with this vote we have until 11/5 to change our vote and/or comments Also there are 2 more votes coming up 1) Systematic Review for Notification of ISO 23081-1:2006 (vers 2) Information and documentation - Records management processes - Metadata for records - Part 1: Principles This is a ballot for the five-year systematic review of the TC46/SC11 standard ISO 23081-1:2006, Notification of ISO 23081-1:2006 (vers 2) Information and documentation - Records management processes - Metadata for records - Part 1: Principles. This part of ISO 23081 covers the principles that underpin and govern records management metadata. It is not meant for calculating a price index of the national media production. The media included are restricted to books, serials and databases. NOTE Further details are given in 2.2 and 3.1. It is intended primarily for use by the library community, although it is accepted that other organizations may also find it useful. It focuses on compiling price indexes on the base of national and international sources, relevant to one country or region and different types of libraries. Different indexes will be appropriate to different types of library, according to the types of material in their collections. This International Standard presents a methodology allowing for a general index which could be calculated from subsets of data, and could be weighted according to local needs. It introduces sampling methods for the selection of materials on which to base calculations. Note that this International Standard describes indexes of prices, not of costs. Local cost indexes can be compiled instead of price indexes where there is insufficient uniformity of pricing structures to permit the calculation of price indexes, or as an additional tool for libraries. Guidelines for the calculation of local cost indexes are given in Annex B. ***If you are using this standard, please note that in your vote comments. It is based on the International Standard Audiovisual Number (ISAN) system defined in ISO 15706. An ISAN combined with the version segment specified in Clause 4 of this part of ISO 15706 constitutes an ISAN version identifier, hereinafter referred to as a V-ISAN. A V-ISAN is a registered, globally unique identifier for versions of an audiovisual work and related content. A V-ISAN identifies a specific version or other content related to an audiovisual work throughout its life. It is intended for use wherever precise and unique identification of a specific version or other content related to an audiovisual work would be desirable, such as in audiovisual production and distribution systems, broadcasting applications and electronic program guides. A V-ISAN identifies a specific version or other content related to an audiovisual work as the unique compound of its component elements (e.g. its artistic content, languages, editing and technical format) throughout its life and independent of any physical form in which that version or related content is distributed. The assignment of a V-ISAN to a version or other content related to an audiovisual work does not constitute evidence of the ownership of rights to either that version or related content or to the audiovisual work itself. This part of ISO 15706 specifies the basic systems and procedures to support the issuance and administration of V-ISANs.
