[Asis-standards] reaffirmation vote

On 2/6 I sent the comment below, giving the reason why I agree we should vote to reaffirm:

Hi Mark,

I have some information from the NISO Content and Collection Management Topic Committee [which oversees this standard] to reinforce your original inclination to recommend "reaffirm".

There was a revision of Z39.86 issued as a draft for trial use last year.  Feedback from the trial indicated that recommendations for change were significant enough to warrant a new standard.  However, users of the existing standard want to continue using it in its current form, as it is in use and works O.K. for existing reading devices, for some period into the future to give time for transition.  

Following a request from the Working Group, the CCM Topic Committee approved the issuance of the revision as a new standard (ballot forthcoming).

Hence the reaffirmation recommendation for the current standard. My notes from our ALA Midwinter meeting say that we [the CCM] were recommending to reaffirm Z39.86 as a "stabilized" standard, with the next review period in 10 years.  And there will be a new draft standard coming later.

Hope this helps.  Having acknowledged a potential conflict of interest as a NISO CCM member, I agree with Mark that we should vote to reaffirm.
