The School of Library and Information Science at Kent State University is part of an integrative doctoral program in the College of Communication and Information. This program provides students with a foundation in communication and information. The curriculum begins with interdisciplinary core courses, and then becomes individually tailored to allow specialization in depth according to each student's developing areas of expertise and research. Several SLIS-related areas of study are available, including:
* digital preservation/digital curation
* health informatics
* human-information interaction
* information and religion
* information organization
* knowledge management
* library management
* museum studies
* user experience design
* youth services librarianship
