Call for Participation in the TREC'13 Contextual Suggestions Track
Text REtrieval Conference (TREC 2013)
November 19-22, Gaithersburg MD, USA
Submission deadline extended to July 23, 2013
The Contextual Suggestion Track evaluates system that suggest
attractions in a target city, given known user preferences in another
city. For example, given the attractions a user would like to visit in
Philadelphia, can we predict the attractions that user would like to
visit in Cincinnati? The task models the problem of a traveler with a
mobile device seeking suggestions for activities in a city he or she is
visiting.
Participating groups will be given:
- A set of profiles for each user (like and dislikes for attractions).
Over 550 profiles are available.
- A set of 50 geographical contexts (cities) that the system should target.
The system should return a list of up to 50 ranked suggestions for each
profile+context pair. Submissions will be judged by the profiled users.
In order to report suggestions a system may use:
- URLs from the open Web
- ClueWeb12 <http://lemurproject.org/clueweb12/>
- ClueWeb12 B13 (7% of all of ClueWeb12)
- ClueWeb12 CS (A small, specialized subcollection. Details are
available on the contextual suggestion website.)
Additionally, participants may use other available resources, such as
Google Places, etc. Training data is available in the form of judged
profile+context pairs from the TREC 2012 version of this task.
Selected participants will have an opportunity to present their work at
TREC 2013. There are still 4 weeks left to participate, with the
ClueWeb12 CS collection providing a relatively easy starting point for
participants with limited resources.
