LAC Group has an immediate need for an experienced Inter-library Loan Technician for a contracted position with the Montgomery College Library.
Work Schedule: Work is done on client site in Rockville, Maryland, Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (8 hours daily)
Job Summary and Responsibilities:
*         Receive and process requests from Montgomery College patrons to borrow materials from other libraries in the United States;
*         Receive and process requests through OCLC FirstSearch for lending materials to other libraries within the United States;
*         Search Montgomery College OPAC (WebVoyage) for call numbers and locations of materials;
*         Search Montgomery College e-Journals for periodical holdings;
*         Retrieve materials from stacks at Montgomery College Rockville campus and package for delivery to other libraries in the U.S. Materials include books, video recordings, sound recordings, etc;
*         Retrieve incoming lending mail from Germantown and Takoma Park campuses and package for delivery to other libraries in the U.S.;
*         Retrieve journals and books held at Rockville campus and scan/copy articles and book chapters for delivery to other libraries in the U.S. via e-mail, Ariel, Odyssey, fax or USPS;
*         Retrieve incoming USPS borrowing mail and distribute to Montgomery College patrons;
*         Respond to all calls, faxes, and e-mail messages directed to the Interlibrary Loan desk;
*         Request loan extensions when renewals are requested;
*         Solve borrowing and lending problems, process overdue notices, recalls and follow-ups;
*         Respond to inquiries regarding status of borrowing and lending requests;
*         Maintain supply inventory in area of responsibility;
*         Perform other tasks as needed.
Education & Training:
*         Strong software application skills including, but not limited to; Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Internet;
*         Strong oral and written communication skills and excellent customer service and public relations skills;
*         Strong English grammar, business writing, spelling skills; and ability to compose and appropriately format correspondence and reports;
*         Ability to work independently using relevant knowledge to determine the best course of action;
*         Ability to interpret, modify, and verify library records within established rules and procedures; understand and operate library computer systems and use resulting output;
*         Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment; handle multiple work priorities, organize and plan work, and adapt procedures;
*         Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to new assignments and work under pressure.
Qualifications:
*         Self-motivated with the ability to recognize and prioritize tasks that need to be done;
*         Detail oriented;
*         Able to work with minimal supervision once trained;
*         Able to adhere to scheduled work hours;
*         Able to retrieve heavy volumes from library stacks;
*         Have good judgment, maturity, and independent decision making skills;
*         Maintains flexibility and ability to adapt to change;
*         Have basic computer and keyboarding skills.
