We welcome you to submit proposals for the Third Annual Transliteracy 
Conference 3Ts 2013: Transliteracy from Cradle to Career.  Our keynote for 
this event will be the internationally recognized expert on transliteracy 
Sue Thomas and will be hosted by the Center for Distance Learning at SUNY 
Empire State College in Saratoga Springs, New York on March 15.  Deadline 
for all proposals is November 26.

We are seeking proposals for the 3Ts 2013: Transliteracy from Cradle to 
Careerconference hosted at SUNY Empire State College in Saratoga Springs, 
New York.  As this year?s title suggests, we have expanded the scope of 
the conference to include K-12 educators to create a dialogue with 
faculty, librarians, and instructional designers about 21stcentury 
literacies.  Join us for a day of exhilarating conversations about the 
theory and practice of emerging literacies and innovative technologies 
throughout a learner?s educational experience.
Keynote Speaker:  Sue Thomas

Conference Proposals should address one or more of the following 
questions:

·       What are the 21st century literacies that learners need from K-12 
to higher education?
·       How do we transition transliterate learners from cradle to career?
·       Will transliteracy bridge literacy education from cradle to 
career?
·       How do we engage K-12 teachers and college educators in 
transliteracy conversations and collaborations? 
·       How does technology inform and support our transliteracy teaching 
practices?
·       In a world of new literacies, how do we integrate transliteracy, 
metaliteracy, and/or media and information literacy in our teaching? 

As proposals are peer reviewed, focus on one of more of the following 
themes is highly encouraged:
·       Connecting theory to practice as discussed and modeled through 
your proposal, presentation, and delivery
·       Collaborative projects/lesson plans that could include (but are 
not limited to) cross-disciplinary teaching, faculty/librarian 
partnerships, partnerships with instructional designers and librarians or 
faculty, and K-12/college experiences
·       Connecting common core learning standards and transliteracy
·       Community partnerships between business and education 
(collaborative efforts, internships, etc)
·       Connecting initiatives described within the SUNY Education 
Pipeline, SUNY Remediation Taskforce, and other state wide initiatives 
·       Pathways initiatives between high schools and community colleges 

Proposals can include any meaningful integration of technology and 
teaching used to support the growing number of literacies students need 
for learning and succeeding in today's information rich academic and 
professional worlds.  Possible tracks and technologies might include:

Literacies:
·       Information literacy
·       Visual literacy
·       Digital literacy
·       Media literacy
·       Cultural literacy
·       Critical literacy
·       21st Century Workplace literacy
·       Metaliteracy
·       Mobile literacy
·       Global Literacy
·       Media and Information Literacy
Technologies:

·       Open Educational Resources (OERs), 
·       Virtual Environments, 
·       personal learning environments (PLEs), 
·       Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), etc.
·       ePortfolios
·       Gamification
·       Maker Spaces 
·       Collaboration Software 

Conference sessions will consist of 45 minutes speaking/workshop time with 
15 minutes allocated for Q&A or a two-hour hands-on interactive workshop.
The deadline for proposals is November 26, 2012

Presenters will be notified by December 14, 2102 if their proposals have 
been accepted. 

Presenters will receive free registration for the conference and will have 
the opportunity to publish their work in the conference?s online 
proceedings.
About Our Keynote Speaker:  International scholar and author Sue Thomas is 
Research Professor of New Media in the Institute of Creative Technologies, 
Faculty of Art, Design & Humanities at De Montfort University, Leicester, 
UK. Her most recent book is the cyberspace travelogue 'Hello World: 
travels in virtuality' (2004). Other publications include the novels 
'Correspondence' (short-listed for the Arthur C Clarke Award for Best 
Science Fiction Novel 1992) and 'Water' (1994); an edited anthology 'Wild 
Women: Contemporary Short Stories By Women Celebrating Women' (1994), and 
'Creative Writing: A Handbook For Workshop Leaders' (1995). She has 
published extensively in both print and online, and has initiated numerous 
online writing projects including The Noon Quilt, now an iconic image of 
the early days of the web. She founded the trAce Online Writing Centre in 
1995 where she was Artistic Director until going to De Montfort in January 
2005. She leads the Transliteracy Research Group with Kate Pullinger, and 
supervises a number of PhD students working in new media related areas. 
Her social media projects have included the NLab Network, CreativeCoffee 
Club, and Amplified Leicester, a city-wide experiment in social media. Her 
research interests include transliteracy, social media, and 
transdisciplinarity, and she co-manages the DMU Transdisciplinary Common 
Room. She is currently writing 'Technobiophilia: Nature and Cyberspace', a 
study of the relationships between cyberspace and the natural world
