Position: One (1) tenure-track position in library and information science,  Assistant or Associate Professor, Youth Services in Libraries

Formal review of applications will begin December 3, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled.



Responsibilities:

RESEARCH (40%) Conduct research in the youth services with particular interest in youth literacy and materials in print and digital formats, culturally diverse populations, and readers and reading in social contexts; Maintain an active, focused research agenda through publications, refereed conference presentations and grant activity.

TEACHING/ADVISING (40%) Develop and teach courses in youth services librarianship in public and school library settings (very young, school-age and teen) that incorporate print and electronic resources within the context of a digital environment;  Participate in opportunities for improvement of instruction, particularly effective use of technology and working with adult learners; Advise assigned students with a focus in public youth and adult services librarianship; Mentor doctoral candidates, supporting research interests and efforts, participating in assimilation into higher education community.

SERVICE (20%) Participate in recruiting for LIS program, including informational visits to all five instructional sites; Represent SISLT at state and national conferences; Maintain and develop networks within the Missouri school and public library communities to advocate for youth services library science education; Represent SISLT on national, state, regional or University committees; Work with graduate student association to foster networking and social connections.



Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate in library science or a related discipline by date of appointment; Demonstrated research focus in the youth services with particular interest in youth literacy and materials in print and digital formats, culturally diverse populations, and readers and reading in social contexts; Professional experience in youth services in public and/or school libraries.



Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Library and Information Science; Record of successful teaching/learning graduate courses in an online environment, preferably Blackboard and Blackboard Collaborate. Courses include children's and young adult literature and materials, and youth services; Experience advising graduate library science/school librarian certification students.



Salary and Rank is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is a nine-month, tenure-track appointment beginning August 19, 2013.
