Call for papers: deadline extended

Theme: Openness in higher education

This issue of Open Praxis focuses on the concept of openness and its growth and use in higher education. The journal will accept contributions that address the following aspects:

What is the meaning of “open” in education? Which aspects of education does openness refer to?
How does openness lead to major changes in higher education?
Which are the main challenges regarding openness in higher education?
Which successful and relevant experiences of use can we identify?
Research articles (approx. 3000 words) may focus on concepts, analysis and results of studies regarding openness in higher education in a broad sense, referring to aspects such as contributions to democratization of access to higher education, challenges, requirements, drivers and barriers, and other research on openness.

Innovative practice articles (approx. 1500 words) may provide analysis of concrete experience of use and implementation of openness in higher education, regarding the use of open educational resources, open courses, open assessment, open access to knowledge, open books, and other areas of open practice.

Papers must include a section devoted to analysis and evaluation of difficulties, opportunities, outcomes and benefits of experiences and research related to openness in higher education.

In addition to articles addressing the special theme, contributions are also invited on other topics which fall within the sphere of interest of the journal, i.e. research and innovation in open, distance and flexible education.

Reviews of books, reports, software or internet resources of approx. 1000 words are also invited.

Deadline for submission: 15 September 2012

Publication: January 2013
