SIGIR 2012: CALL FOR POSTERS AND DEMOS
SIGIR is the major international forum for the presentation of new research results and for the demonstration of new systems and techniques in the broad field of information retrieval (IR). SIGIR 2012 will be held in Portland, Oregon, USA from 12-16 August 2012. We invite all those working in areas related to IR to submit original posters and proposals for demonstrations of systems as described below.
POSTERS
Poster presentations offer researchers an opportunity to present significant work in progress or research that is best communicated in an interactive or graphical format. Poster presentations further provide researchers with an opportunity to obtain direct feedback about their work from a wide audience during the poster session.
Poster submissions are welcome in areas related to any aspect of Information Retrieval (IR), as identified in the call for contributions. Posters are short research papers presenting original, previously unpublished work. Submissions describing the work will be reviewed, and accepted poster papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
POSTER CONTENT GUIDELINES
Submissions of extended abstracts for posters must be in English and should not exceed 2 pages in SIGIR format (including references and figures). Suitable LaTeX and Word templates for SIGIR are available from the ACM Website (for LaTeX, use Option 2).
The only accepted format for submissions is PDF. As with full papers, authors should conceal their identity. Poster paper submissions that are over the 2-page limit or are not anonymous will be rejected without review. Note that summaries of full papers that have already been published elsewhere (including in another language) are not acceptable as poster submissions for SIGIR.
Poster papers must be submitted electronically using the poster track of the conference submission system (http://sigir2012-poster.confmaster.net/). At least one author must register and attend the conference. All submissions must be in English. Please note that it is the responsibility of the authors to ensure that the PDF submission has been uploaded successfully (we suggest that you try downloading your paper again yourself, to check).
IMPORTANT DATES: POSTERS
Poster submissions due: March 5, 2012.
Acceptance notification: April 30, 2012.
Conference in Portland, USA: August 12-16, 2012.
DEMONSTRATIONS
Demonstrations present first-hand experience with research prototypes or operational systems. They provide opportunities to exchange ideas gained from implementing IR systems and to obtain feedback from expert users. Demonstration submissions are welcome in any of the areas identified in the call for papers.
One-page demonstration abstracts will appear in the conference proceedings.
DEMONSTRATION CONTENT GUIDELINES
Submissions must be in English and consist of two pages: 1) an extended
abstract: one page in SIGIR format including references and figures; and 2) an additional one-page requirements description. The first page will appear in the proceedings.
The abstract should emphasize what the implemented system aims to achieve, the major components of the system, the novelty of the techniques that have been implemented, and comparisons with existing systems.
The requirements description should identify the hardware, software and network access requirements for the demonstration. Internet connectivity will be available at the hotel. Proposals to demonstrate systems that require more than a standard Web browser (e.g. context-aware mobile systems or virtual reality
systems) must explain how the systems will be demonstrated at the conference.
The only accepted format for submissions is PDF. Templates for SIGIR submissions are available from the ACM Website (for LaTeX, use the Option 2 style). This is also the style that will be required for final papers.
Unlike posters and research papers, authors of demonstration proposals are not expected to take measures to conceal their identity from reviewers.
Demonstration proposals must be submitted by March 5, 2012. Demonstration papers must be submitted electronically via the demonstration track of the conference submission system (http://sigir2012-demo.confmaster.net/). At least one author must register and attend the conference. All submissions must be in English.
