Announcement.

Emporia State University's School of Library and Information Management seeks a new tenure-track faculty member at assistant, associate or full professor rank to teach in its ALA-accredited MLS program.  The position is for a nine-month contract with an option for summer teaching and includes generous health insurance, retirement benefits and funding for professional development, conferences, and seminars.  Screening will begin October 21 and continue until the position is filled.

The successful candidate will have a doctorate in library/information studies or a related discipline, or ABD with an anticipated Spring 2012 graduation date, and recent teaching and/or research expertise in at least one of the following areas:  information technology, social media , database design, and public or special libraries.  Other desired qualifications are experience with a course management program, such as Blackboard,  and commitment to service.  Individuals who have experience working in public, academic, government, or special libraries are especially encouraged to apply.

All SLIM faculty are expected to teach at least two courses in the core curriculum: LI801 Foundations of Library and Information Science, LI802 Foundations of Service, LI804 Organization of Information, LI805 Leadership and Administration of Information Organizations, LI810 Research in Library and Information Science, LI 813: Reference and User Services, LI 815: Information Technology, LI 855: Collection Development and Management. Classes for SLIM's MLS program are taught at the Emporia campus as well as at SLIM's off-site regional locations in Portland, Salt Lake City, Denver, and Kansas City.  SLIM core courses are taught by full-time faculty; most applications courses are taught by local practitioners who serve on the SLIM national faculty.  Over two-thirds of SLIM courses are taught in weekend-intensive classes supplemented by online instruction via Blackboard and Adobe Connect; the remaining courses are taught online.

Emporia, population 25,000, is located in the beautiful Flint Hills area of Kansas. Emporia combines the attributes of small-town living with easy access to several major metropolitan areas and airports; Lawrence, Topeka, Wichita, and Kansas City are within 100 miles.
