WORKSHOP ON INTERACTIVE SYSTEMS IN HEALTHCARE 2011

Co-located with the American Medical Informatics Association’s Fall Symposium

October 22, 2011

Washington Hilton, Washington, DC

Sponsored by: ACM, AMIA, Georgia Institute of Technology, Microsoft
Research, Northeastern University, NSF, AHRQ

***OVERVIEW***

With the growing emphasis on the adoption and impact of Health IT
(HIT), HIT researchers and practitioners are increasingly focusing on
the design of interactive systems, human factors, and human-computer
interaction. Despite this progress, however, there exists a largely
untapped potential to create deeper and more profound connections
among the biomedical, informatics, human-computer interaction, human
factors, medical sociology, and anthropology communities that would
lead to the development of new methods, approaches, and techniques for
removing the barriers to the adoption of HIT.

To address this limitation, the Association of Computing and Machinery
(ACM) Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI 2010)
hosted the 2010 Workshop on Interactive Systems in Healthcare (WISH
2010, http://www.chi2010.org/wish/). The workshop attracted over 150
participants from a variety of disciplines and institutions and
included a combination of invited panels, keynote talks, and research
presentations. At WISH 2010, researchers and practitioners discussed
the most pressing issues in the design, development, and evaluation of
HIT and the impact of new research on commercial HIT systems.

***INVITATION TO ATTEND WISH 2011***

You are cordially invited to attend WISH 2011, hosted by the American
Medical Informatics Association and collocated with its Annual
Symposium in Washington, DC, on October 22, 2011. Building on the
success of WISH 2010, the workshop will be a part of the pre-AMIA
program and will have a format similar to last year’s workshop,
including invited panels, a peer-reviewed technical program and an
interactive poster reception. In addition, the workshop will include
keynote talks by Dr. Elizabeth Mynatt (Georgia Institute of
Technology) and Dr. William Stead (Vanderbilt University).

We encourage anyone interested in the topic of interactive systems in
healthcare to join us for what will be a stimulating day of
presentations, discussion and idea sharing amongst an
interdisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners.

***REGISTRATION***

Through the generous support of our sponsors, registration costs have
been significantly lowered. Information on registering can be found
here: http://wish2011.wordpress.com/attending/.

***HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS***

WISH 2011 will be held at the Washington Hilton
(http://www.amia.org/amia2011/hotel), the same hotel at which the AMIA
Annual Symposium will be held. Attendees wishing to book their hotel
reservation at the Hilton should do so soon as the hotel will likely
fill up quickly. There are also a number of other hotel options
nearby.

For more information on the workshop, including the program and
steering committee, please visit the WISH
website:https://wish2011.wordpress.com.

We hope to see you at WISH!
