I thought the minutes of the Standards committee at ASIST 2011 might be of interest to the membership, especially points 5 and 6

Standards Committee Meeting – 10.09.2011 – Balcony K 5:30 pm

 

Attending: Mark Needleman, Chair,  Florida Center for Library Automation

                Gail Thornburg,  OCLC

                Timothy Dickey,  Kent State University

                               

1.         Mark opened with an over view of standards work during the year.    Attendees reviewed current efforts they are engaged in.

2.       Mark noted there is one out for vote TR87  due October 16th.

3.        Question was raised  as to the current membership of the Standards Committee.  Mark will investigate

4.         Mark noted we need to consider whether we will submit a proposal for a panel on Standards for next year’s ASIST Annual Meeting.   Last year we had a presentation on identifiers

5.       The ASIST web page now contains a record of  the votes  the Standard Committee has made over the last year or so.    This is found under committees.    This area also contains  slides from the 2010 presentations at the standards panel.

6) The Standards committee is always looking for people who are interested in either joining the committee and being part of it's work or being added to the committee mailing list to be kept aware of the committee's activities. We are also eager to hear from the ASIST membership about ideas on standards they would like to see on future programs.
