FACULTY POSITION. CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA
Clinical Assistant Professor: Health Information Technology

The School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) of The Catholic University of America invites applications for a non-tenure track clinical assistant professor position that will begin in summer or fall of 2011. We seek an energetic individual with expertise in health information technology, medical informatics, health informatics, or health sciences librarianship to support the school's Master of Science in Information Technology program that concentrates on Health Information Technology (MSIT-HIT).
Candidates with a master's degree in LIS or a closely related field and substantial professional experience will be considered. An earned doctoral degree in library and information science (LIS) or a closely related field is desirable. Candidates must be able to teach one or more of the SLIS core courses: Organization of Information, Information Sources and Services, Information Systems in Libraries and Information Centers, and Libraries and Information in Society (http://slis.cua.edu/courses/courses.cfm). Candidates must have substantial professional experience in managing health resources and operations with information systems, familiar with healthcare services, and knowledgeable about trends in health information technology. Candidates must have demonstrated teaching ability, and the ability to teach in blended format is desirable, using online technologies to provide synchronous and asynchronous learning to students. Grant experience is helpful, and ability to attract grants is highly desirable.

The finalist will be responsible for teaching courses in the MSIT-HIT program, coordinating students' capstone experiences, advising students, and developing and maintaining close relationships with practitioners and educators in the field. The school offers courses in Washington, DC and Virginia. Each faculty member is expected to teach one course a year at one of our off campus sites. The teaching load is six courses per academic year; substantial administrative responsibilities will be taken into account to reduce the six-course teaching load. Summer teaching is optional.
