I am pleased to announce the 2010 Chapter Awards. Please see the official
citations below:

*Chapter Member of the Year*

*Susan Fensore of the Northern Ohio Chapter*

Susan Fensore of the Northern Ohio Chapter of ASIS&T (NORASIST) is awarded
the 2010 Chapter Member of the Year Award. Susan has gone “above and
beyond” for her Chapter, by stepping up “to fill her chapter’s need for
leadership and recruitment in a significant way” (noted one judge). The
judges were particularly impressed by Susan’s emphasis on outreach, by
representing NORASIST at job fairs, classroom visits, and orientation events
for the local library science graduate program. This type of outreach is an
exemplary act of service that promotes both the local chapter and the
national association. For this work, Susan Fensore is awarded the 2010
Chapter Member of the Year Award.

*Chapter Publication of the Year*

*Central Ohio Chapter*

The Central Ohio Chapter is awarded the 2010 Publication of the Year Award
for its website. As noted by one of the judges, “The site is very well-done
and exhibits excellent technological implementation and high-quality
design.” New functionality of the website includes a search feature, an
interactive calendar of posts, a dynamic tag cloud of site content, and a
clean version for mobile devices. The website is also highly integrated
with other methods of chapter information dissemination, such as facebook
and twitter. The Central Ohio Chapter website presents a clean,
professional appearance. In addition, the up-to-date information provides
evidence of a vibrant IS community in Ohio. For these reasons, the Central
Ohio Chapter merits receipt of the 2010 Publication of the Year Award.

*Los Angeles Chapter*

The Los Angeles Chapter (LACASIST) is awarded the 2010 Publication of the
Year Award for its website. The LACASIST website, which was first launched
in 1996, was redesigned this year on a new open-source content management
system (Drupal). Since launching the new website, the site has seen a 527%
increase in traffic. The focus of the redesign was on improving information
architecture and site experience, improving post-event materials, and
consolidating information dissemination. What most attracted the judges was
the focus of the redesign on facilitating prospective membership
understanding. This was accomplished by dedicating a section of the website
to prospective members and providing these individuals with up-to-date and
accessible information on getting involved in the chapter. This dedication
to recruitment and retention of members merits receipt of the 2010
Publication of the Year Award.

*Chapter Event of the Year*

*Los Angeles Chapter – Collaborative Tools: Best Practices and New Trends*

The Los Angeles Chapter of ASIS&T is awarded the 2010 Chapter Event of the
Year for their Fall event entitled “Collaboration Tools: Best Practices and
New Trends.” This timely event brought together academics and practitioners
to discuss a) ways to help professional work more productively, b) benefits
of cloud computing, c) state-of-the-art in collaborative work, and d) how
teams communicate across geographic distances. This event, which was held
in cooperation with the Los Angeles user experience group, provided an
excellent opportunity for increasing LACASIST and ASIST visibility to
non-ASIS&T members. This outreach, and the overwhelming success of the
program, merits the award of the 2010 Chapter Event of the Year Award to
LACASIST.

*Carolinas Chapter and the UNC Student Chapter -- Information Design
Workshop*

The Carolinas Chapter of ASIS&T and the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill Student Chapter are awarded the 2010 Chapter Event of the Year
Award for their information design workshop. This 2.5 hours workshop on
information visualization and design for academic posters and presentations
was held on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The
event was led by UNC doctoral candidate and designer Songphan Choemprayong.
This event, featuring a stunning slideshow, walked students through various
aspects of designing and presenting information. Of greatest appeal to the
judges was the large number of non-ASIS&T members who attended this
event, providing good publicity for ASIS&T. The judges were also impressed
with the level of collaboration between the student and regional chapter. This
merits the receipt of the 2010 Chapter Event of the Year Award.
