LAC Group seeks a Government Documents Librarian for a contract position in a government library in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

. Manage the federal government documents and maps collection as Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) coordinator for the agency's central library. 
. Liaison with the Government Printing Office (GPO) on issues of depository management and attend depository workshops and conferences. 
. Subscribe to potentially salient categories of publications offered by the GPO based on agency mission and user needs. Determine relevance of individual publications as they are received, cataloging and processing in pertinent items. Routinely review lists of documents offered by other depositories to fill gaps in the collection.
. Manage shelf space by weeding and archiving older documents to remote storage. Create documentation of procedures.  
. Secure access to relevant databases newly available to depository libraries.
. Create and maintain a shelf-listing database in Microsoft Access for depository documents received prior to August 2005. 90,000 records are contained in the system. Routinely import new sets of data as available to Marcive, the shelf-listing database for documents received after August 2005.
. Maintain the government documents and maps section of the library website, expanding it from a limited list of links to a comprehensive annotated web resources directory. Make the government documents shelf-listing database available online. Create an online guide to the agency's maps and charts collection.
. Cataloging both monographic and serial publications in a variety of formats such as print, electronic, video, and web resources. Create original bibliographic and authority records compliant with standard cataloging rules in OCLC Connexion. Knowledgeable in and routinely apply MARC standards, Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (2nd revision), Superintendent of Documents Classification System, Library of Congress Subject Headings and Library of Congress Classification. 
. Provide digital video archive standards; actively participate in the development of procedures and standards for digitizing video materials; convert video highlights into web compatible formats; participate in operational meetings to discuss project activities.
. During staffing shortages, assist federal library reference staff by staffing the Information desk, provide in-person, telephone, e-mail and online reference and research services. Register new patrons, maintain patron accounts and manage circulation process. Perform reference interviews and respond to requests ranging from directional to research questions of medium complexity both in person and in writing. Utilize print and electronic standard reference tools, online databases, other web resources and my knowledge of the information resources within the agency to assist patrons.
