This month's Second Life (SL) information literacy/ information behaviour
journal club meeting is on Tuesday 14th December at 12 noon Second Life time
(this is the same as US Pacific time, which is 8pm UK time, see
http://tinyurl.com/29uj8pw for times elsewhere). This takes place in the
virtual world SL: you need a SL avatar and the SL browser installed on your
computer to attend.
Maggie Kohime (Lyn Parker, Sheffield University, outside Second Life) will lead
discussion on the open access article:
Hauxwell, H. (2008) "Information literacy at the Service Desk: the role of
circulations staff in promoting information literacy". Journal of Information
Literacy, 2(2),
http://jil.lboro.ac.uk/ojs/index.php/JIL/article/view/ART-V2-I2-2008-2
As usual, Maggie will give a short introduction to the article, and then we will
discuss it (all in text chat). Questions to start discussion are:
* What strengths or weaknesses do you see in this paper?
* How paraprofessional staff fit into reference work and/or information literacy
teaching in your institutions? Is their input recognised?
* Is staff development for paraprofessionals provided on information literacy
within your institution?
The venue is: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Infolit%20iSchool/126/239/21/
This is part of the Centre for Information Literacy Research series on Infolit
iSchool in Second Life
