SIG Metrics was founded as a virtual SIG on June 10, 1999 by Eugene
Garfield, Chairman Emeritus of the Institute for Scientific
Information in Philadelphia, PA USA. SIGMETRICS is currently a
listserv discussion group that covers bibliometrics, scientometrics
and informetrics, webometrics, but also metrics as related to the
design and operation of Digital Libraries and other information
systems interpreted broadly.

We would like to propose that SIGMETRICS become an active SIG within
ASIS&T, in addition to the virtual presence. In order to achieve this
status, we need to receive endorsement from 50 ASIS&T members stating
that they would be interested in the creation of such a SIG. 19
members of the SIGMETRICS listserv have already endorsed this
proposal.

We believe that the SIGMETRICS is an active and important community
within ASIS&T and we would like to see the interests of this community
represented in ASIS&T governance. Becoming an active SIG would allow
a greater voice for SIGMETRICS members and more opportunities for
relevant programming. It may also serve to recruit and retain members
with metric-related interests.

If you would be willing to sign a petition for the creation of
SIGMETRICS as an active SIG, please send an email to
cassidysugimoto at gmail.com. These emails will serve as signatures of
support.

In addition, if you would be interested in serving as an officer of
this SIG, please let us know!

Sincerely,
