Call for Speakers for the 2009 SLA-SD Fall Seminar: Conveying Your Value!

 

The San Diego Chapter of the Special Libraries Association is seeking speakers for our annual full-day professional development seminar to be held on October 9, 2009 (location to be determined).

 

The seminar theme is "Conveying Your Value."

 

Topics speakers may address include, but are not limited to,

 

* Determining Return on Investment (ROI)

* Conveying value during economic hard times

* Value-added services:  Adding value, analysis, and new methods of delivering information

* Changing role of information professionals

* How vendor statistics can be used to measure value

 

We are looking for speakers to cover:

 

* Practical applications (how-to), not just theory

* Case studies demonstrating innovation, and relevant to: 

Ø  academic libraries

Ø  corporate libraries

Ø  medical libraries

Ø  law libraries

Ø  public libraries

Ø  or other special libraries

 

Speakers discussing case studies will want to cover how initiatives came about, how they were implemented, what daily functioning looked like, benefits to all parties and lessons learned.  Success is not required, as we often learn more from what went wrong.

 

Each speaker will have approximately 20-25 minutes for a presentation and 10-15 minutes for Q&A.  Speakers may be invited to join a panel, in which case the time allotted may differ. 

 

We encourage submissions from librarians and LIS graduate students working in all types of libraries.  SLA membership is not required. Would you like to serve as a speaker at the seminar?

 

We are also interested in recommendations for keynote speakers. Is there a speaker you would suggest?
