School of Information Management

Assistant/Associate Professor

The Dalhousie School of Information Management (SIM) invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (dependent upon qualifications and experience). In addition to the academic appointment, this position offers a potential leadership role as Director of Dalhousie's new Master of Information Management mid-career, cost-recovery program designed for the public and private sectors (see mim.management.dal.ca).

The Faculty of Management has a unique commitment to values-based management and inter-disciplinary research and learning. We seek an additional colleague who will contribute to, and thrive in, this environment. The Faculty includes four schools (Business Administration, Information Management, Public Administration and Resource and Environmental Studies). In addition to the Master of Information Management degree, SIM currently offers the American Library Association accredited degree, Master of Library and Information Studies, three combined graduate degrees (with law, public administration and environmental management), and contributes to the interdisciplinary Bachelor of Management degree with the other schools in the Faculty. In addition, the School supports Dalhousie's Interdisciplinary PhD program and the institution-wide College of Sustainability.

The successful candidate will have:

· A PhD in Knowledge Management, Information Studies or other pertinent field

· A strong research record, demonstrated by publications and grants, commensurate with experience and stage of career

· Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the graduate level and, ideally, in an online environment. Experience teaching at the undergraduate level will be an asset.

· Leadership skills appropriate for the management and marketing of new initiatives

· Professional experience in the public or private sector will be an asset, as SIM is a professional school

SIM provides a dynamic and collegial environment. Information about the School may be found at sim.management.dal.ca. The School's strategic goals, in addition to the new MIM, include contribution to a Knowledge Management major in the Bachelor of Management program, continuous evolution of the MLIS, and exploration of research and teaching collaborations with colleagues across the Faculty of Management. Our Faculty's School of Business Administration is AACSB accredited.

The following ranked research and teaching areas are of special interest to the School:

1. Knowledge management

2. Human resource management in information intensive organizations

3. Geospatial information management

4. Information technology and systems

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Dalhousie University is an employment equity/affirmative action employer. The University encourages applications from qualified Aboriginal people, persons with a disability, racially visible persons and women.

This position is open until filled.

Applicants should send their letter, brief teaching portfolio, statement of research, and full curriculum vitae (including names and contact information for three referees, who will be contacted only for shortlisted candidates), to:
