=========================================================
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the "Handbook of Research on
Developments in e-Health and Telemedicine: Technological and Social Perspectives"
within your field of expertise related to the handbook topics.
*** Introduction:
According to well-established definitions, e-Health refers to the use of
information and communication technologies to meet the needs of citizens, patients,
healthcare professionals, healthcare providers, and policy makers.
'e-Health is today's tool for substantial productivity gains, while providing
tomorrow's instrument for restructured, citizen-centered health care systems'
The Internet has created and continues creating new opportunities and challenges
to the health care information technology industry, to organizations and to citizens.
We are witnessing a growing number of successful e-Health developments in a wide
range of domains, including health information networks, electronic health records,
telemedicine services, wearable and portable monitoring systems, and health portals.
Simultaneously, since e-health encompasses more than mere technological development,
significant developments can be seen in complementary disciplines such as psychology,
sociology, law, management of healthcare services, and other.
*** The mission and overall objectives of this book:
The mission of the proposed book is to discuss the main issues, challenges,
opportunities and trends related to this new field of knowledge able to transform the
way we live and deliver services, from the social and technological dimensions, in a
very comprehensive way, and to disseminate current developments and practical
solutions and applications.
We intend to highlight with this proposed handbook of research that e-health
encompasses more than mere technological development.
The overall objectives are:
- To discuss the importance of e-Health and the emerging technological
developments and practical solutions.
- To introduce the state-of-the-art supporting technology.
- To introduce and discuss the challenges associated with e-Health
developments, from the social, organizational and technological perspectives.
- To introduce recent technological developments and associated human / social
implications.
- To introduce relevant and recent developments and solutions (academic and
industrial) addressing the several dimensions and issues of the handbook of research.
The book is intended to support the academic audience (teachers, researchers and
students, mainly of post-graduated studies), healthcare professionals (health
specialists, medical doctors, sociologists and administrators), and IT professionals
(system developers and IT specialists) and policy makers.
*** Recommended topics:
