[Apologies for any cross postings.]
Sponsored search is an interesting paradigm for information searching on the Web. Now, there is an vehicle to explore this unique medium as an educational opportunity for students and professors.
Google's first-ever global academic competition, the Google Online Marketing Challenge, is beginning this year.
Give your students a compelling learning experience and maybe a week's holiday, for both you and the students, at a five star hotel in San Francisco. Part of your holiday includes a day at the nearby Googleplex, to meet the team behind AdWords.
Here's how the Challenge works: Your students will receive US$ 200 in Google ads to drive traffic to a business Website of their choosing. Students will compete with groups from their institution along with student teams from all over the world.
This is not a simulation; students gain real-world experience with a real client. You have a great student project; clients gain free advertising and Internet consulting. Google provides US $200 in vouchers, teaching materials and other resources.
The Challenge is open to undergraduate and graduate students anywhere in the world. You will find details at http ://www.google. com/onlinechallenge/ You can also send questions to: Jamie Murphy <jmurphy@ biz.uwa.edu.au>, The University of Western Australia Business School or
* Charles Hofacker <chofack@ cob.fsu.edu>, Florida State University, representing the Americas.
* Ana Isabel Canhoto <a.I.Canhoto@ lse.ac.uk>, London School of Economics, representing Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
* Larry Neale <larry.neale@ uwa.edu.au>, The University of Western Australia, representing Australia and Asia Pacific.
Thank you for your attention and we hope you will enter your students in the Google Online Marketing Challenge.
Best,
Jim
