Hello ASIS&T Member,
As the seasons change, we are writing to keep you up to date on ASIS&T
activities and your member benefits.
2008 IA (Information Architecture) Summit! This year –
"Experiencing Information" is scheduled for April 10-14 in Miami, FL.
Full details are at http://www.iasummit.org/2008/. This year's Summit
features plenary talks by User Interface Design Engineering founder,
Jared Spool (opening keynote) and Vanguard's Lead Information Architect,
Andrew Hinton (closing plenary). These talks highlight a program of
numerous educational sessions and networking opportunities. The Summit
is very much a community conference and this year's conference provides
a tool to help you connect with other attendees - check out CrowdVine:
http://iasummit08.crowdvine.com/. It is our intent to capture
all the presentations, sync them with audio, and make them available
through the IA Summit website. In addition, 2-3 sessions may well be
“broadcast” through Second Life. Again, check the Summit web site for
more information after the meeting.
The 5th International Conference on Knowledge Management (ICKM2008)
will be co-sponsored and hosted in conjunction with the 2008 ASIS&T
Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio in October. See the call for ICKM2008
papers: http://www.ickm2008.org
In addition to high quality conferences, member involvement and
leadership are a big part of ASIS&T. ASIS&T will soon be looking for
candidates for Officers and Directors. To volunteer, see
http://asist.org/volunteer.html
Remember: You can update your member information online and find
colleagues and experts! Just use the ASIS&T membership database,
available on the Society web site. Step by step instructions with
screenshots can be found here:
http://www.asis.org/membershipInstructions.html.
Keep in touch with ASIS&T throughout the year with your chapter and
SIG activities. Groups have listservs and websites that members and
non-members may join. See http://www.asist.org/sigschapters.html for
more information.
ASIS&T is on Facebook! Join the 289 (and counting) members and non-
members who are fans of the American Society for Information Science &
Technology to see announcements, events, job postings, and network with
students, researchers, and practitioners. Several chapters, SIGs, and
student chapters also have Facebook pages. Login (join) FaceBook and
join the ASIS&T FaceBook Group here:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2383101838
OR search FaceBook Groups for "ASIS&T" to find the Society group and the
growing number of Chapter/SIG/student chapter groups:

And finally, don't forget the ASIS&T publications! The April JASIST
(http://www.asis.org/jasist.html) includes articles on automatic text
summarization models, recent developments in information science, an
alternative index for measuring scholarly impact, user engagement with
technology and information quality assurance practices used in
Wikipedia, among others. The February/March Bulletin
(http://www.asis.org/bulletin.html), now in a new interactive online
format, features a special section on information professionals in a
globalized world. Members can easily access ASIS&T publications via the
Society's Digital Library: http://www.asis.org/digitallibrary.html
Of course, we've just touched on a few highlights in this email.
To stay abreast of what your Society is doing, visit the ASIS&T web site at
http://www.asis.org. And if you have questions about your membership
status or benefits, please contact Vanessa Foss, Membership Services
Manager, at membership at asist.org.
Enjoy the new season!
