Job Title:    Systems Librarian: E. H. Little Library
	      Davidson College
	      Davidson, NC  28035	      
	


Basic Function:  Overall responsibility for implementing and maintaining
the library's operations in the area of Information Technology. 

Essential Functions:  ILS administration, configuration, and
optimization, including customization of interfaces and scripting.
Collaborate with ITS for ILS and other database, hardware, and software
upgrades.  Troubleshoot hardware, software, and other library equipment
problems for staff, public, and library electronic classroom
workstations. Coordinate technical issues related to the library's web
presence by serving as liaison with ITS, providing oversight of website
usability issues, and participating in ongoing training programs.
Develop, enhance, support and maintain a variety of applications
including the course reserves system, OCLC, ILL software,
library-created databases, and link resolver software.  Evaluate and
monitor the compatibility of third-party databases with campus network
and computer systems, and troubleshoot problems.  Run statistics and
create and run reports from various systems, as scheduled and as
requested by staff.


Additional Duties:  Monitor and anticipate information technology
developments in librarianship and higher education in order to support
library-wide discussion and planning.  Assist in budget preparation for
information technology investments and projects in cooperation with
other librarians, the Library Business Manager, and ITS.  Work with the
Library Director and other librarians to plan for the introduction and
development of new library technology applications.  Work regular shifts
on the reference desk, including some weekend and evening shifts. 


Required Qualifications:  MLS from an ALA accredited institution. 2 - 5
years of relevant experience.  Database management skills with a
preference for experience in SirsiDynix Unicorn, Oracle, Unix, ASP.Net,
API, MS SQL or other database querying tools.  Knowledge of content
management systems. WEB programming experience with a preference for
skills with PERL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML.  Demonstrated
strengths in communication and collaboration both in the library and
with outside constituencies. Demonstrated experience as a team player
who can multi-task, set priorities, solve problems, and collaborate in
establishing goals.
