Library Associates seeks an Information Resource Librarian for an
excellent position for a pharmaceutical company located in the
Washington D.C. area.
Specific Duties
The specific duties assigned to the Information Resource Librarian are
as follows:
1. Manage the acquisitions of documents and reports not
held by the Information Resource Center (IRC)
* Facilitate client access to documents including citation
verification and order processing
* Oversee client requests and record and update transactions in
the IRC's integrated library system
* Identify and resolve issues as they arise
* Assure copyright compliance
* Communicate effectively with vendors to assure quality in
meeting client needs
2. Conduct research to meet client information needs
and support decision making by utilizing various internal and external
resources in the fields of medical, pharmaceutical, competitive
intelligence, business and government regulations
* Perform and coordinate information needs analysis
* Translate client information needs into effective search
strategies
* Perform Internet and online database searches such as Dialog,
DataStar, Factiva, etc.
* Evaluate, analyze, synthesize and deliver research results
* Provide or arrange training in the use of the IRC resources
3. Obtain and organize IRC resources
* Acquire IRC resources by following proper ordering procedures
and practices
* Utilize the IRC's integrated library system to conduct
original and copy cataloging using proper Library of Congress subject
headings and classifications
* Create and maintain authority descriptors within the IRC's
integrated library system
* Conduct annual IRC resources inventory
* Assist in resource development to enhance the IRC collection
* Maintain and monitor circulation records, including scheduled
overdue recalls, using the IRC's automated circulation system
4. Assist in promoting and marketing IRC services
* Assist in developing IRC user training programs
* Assist in developing IRC promotional materials
* Serve as backup for publishing IRC newsletter and promotional
materials
5. Support IRC activities and administrative tasks
* Sort incoming mail daily
* Shelve all materials regularly
* Support administrative tasks such as PO, invoice processing,
etc.
* Other tasks as requested
Education, Special Skills and Experience
* Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited
program
* 1-3 years corporate, medical or pharmaceutical library
experience
* Experience with Dialog, DataStar, Factiva or INMAGIC
preferred.
* Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
* Ability and willingness to learn and develop subject matter
expertise
* Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to
detail
* Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively
with fellow team members and clients
* Effective communication and customer service skills
